The Black Lives Matter movement doesn't just need allies who condemn the murder of George Floyd or empty rhetoric – it needs comrades in the fight against racial injustice.

The BAAQMD Employee’s Association Statement Supporting the Black Lives Matter Movement

We are here as members of a public service labor union working on issues ranging from public health to environmental justice, and our members represent the diversity and solidarity of the Bay Area, California, and the United States of America.

For too long, racism and white supremacy have divided working people and weakened our ability to organize for collective power.

We know we will never achieve economic and environmental justice without racial justice.

We have a duty to take a unified stand against injustice that affects any employee.

Together, we join the fight to end systemic racism and police violence against Black people everywhere.

Together, we are united to stand up for Black lives.

We commit to being proactive about how we address racial tensions and racially motivated incidents in the union.

We commit to creating constructive solutions to dismantle systemic and endemic racism within our organization and throughout our society.

We stand with activists, organizations, and unions fighting to end police brutality and demanding to rebuild the criminal justice system in the United States.

We stand for the right to a workplace free of racism and hate-based violence.

In the streets, on the job, or in the halls of power, we stand up for Black lives.

Black Lives Matter.
