EA Stands in Solidarity with LGBTQ+ and Immigrant Communities

Spurred by our colleagues in immigrant and LGBTQ+ communities, the Employees’ Association (EA) voted to endorse statements brought forth by colleagues on LGBTQ+ solidarity and immigration justice. The EA affirms that LGBTQ+ solidarity and immigration justice are inseparable. Members and colleagues of the LGBTQ+ community too often face discrimination that erodes dignity, safety, and trust. Immigrant colleagues and community members likewise confront scapegoating, barriers to services, and climate displacement that compound environmental burdens. The EA recognizes the essential contributions of both communities and affirm that access to clean air, health protections, and public services must never depend on paperwork, status, or identity.

Guided by our mission and ethics, the EA rejects homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and fear-based policies. We commit to an inclusive, respectful workplace; to communication and programs that are welcoming and accessible across language, culture, sexual orientation, and gender identity; and to advocating for equitable, humane approaches that protect everyone’s rights and well-being. Solidarity across communities is a daily practice. Standing up for LGBTQ+ and immigrant members alike, listening across differences, and using our roles to reduce harm and expand opportunity is a shared goal of the EA. This unified preamble frames the values, context, and commitments that guide both our LGBTQ+ Solidarity Statement and our Immigration Justice Statement.
